Movies

Journal Entry: Sun Jan 9, 2005, 11:29 AM
Two great German movies I saw recently:
Wim Wender's Der Himmel über Berlin (Wings of Desire)- 1987
I remember seeing this when I was 13- maybe because I've grown jaded that the story doesn't hold meaning to me anymore but it is still a beautiful movie. Great shots of Berlin and the cinematography is nothing short of brilliant.
Werner Herzog's Aguirre, der Zorn Gottes (Aguirre, the Wrath of God)- 1972
Astounding camerawork (the whole movie was shot from a single camera) that showed why Hollywood movies suck big time. Set in the the jungle of Peru- the story behind the movie is just as interesting as the movie itself. Klaus Kinski gave an incredible performance. The story has an incredible depth and is timeless.
